Recovery Cones for Kittens

When kittens need a recovery cone, it’s essential to use one that is appropriately sized, lightweight, and comfortable. Unfortunately, standard cones made for adult cats are too large and rigid for young and neonatal kittens, but these are often the only cones available at a vet office.

A poorly fitted cone can interfere with eating, drinking, sleeping, mobility, and overall recovery, so if your young foster kitten is going in for a procedure, it’s a good idea to confirm with the vet whether or not they have appropriately sized cones. If not, you’ll want to buy your own!

The best recovery cones for kittens are soft or semi-flexible with an adjustable neck. For 8 week old kittens, a neck measurement between 5.5-7.5 inches should work. For kittens 4-8 weeks, you’ll want something more like 4-5.5 inches. Kittens under 4 weeks old rarely need to wear a cone, though smaller options do exist!

Here are some of my favorite recovery cones (that will actually fit a kitten!)
